The Campfire Method

The Campfire Method was launched in 2020 by author, columnist, philanthropic leader, and mental health expert, Anuja Khemka. The Campfire Method (TM) uses a mental health lens on classic storytelling so that kids develop mindsets and strengths to face challenges from stress and anxiety to peer pressure and bullying. Drawing on fables, fairytales, and ancient mythology from around the world, it also helps children learn about diverse cultures and understand cultural differences.
Research shows that childhood is a critical time when children learn and absorb what will become fundamental to the way they see and interact with the world. For that reason, early childhood presents us–parents and caregivers–a special opportunity to introduce and explore concepts such as self esteem, growth mindset, self care, resilience, cultural diversity, cultural acceptance, positive mindset, and mental health. Throughout history, storytelling has served as a powerful tool to not only pass traditions onto future generations, but to share knowledge. Now we know that storytelling provides the kind of brain stimulation needed to develop things like empathy, generosity, and community as well.
